Supper Time

When I was growing up my family sat down for supper every night.  Most mornings we even had breakfast together.  This was a time where we talked and discussed the days events.

It's also a place where we learned a lot of lessons.

  •  If you do not like what is fixed, then fix it yourself or don't eat.
  • Don't put more on your plate then you can eat (eyes being bigger then your stomach)
  • It's rude to talk with your mouth full of food.
  • Don't play with your food, eat it or put your plate up.
This is a time when you put your own plate in the sink and that of others that were finished. You also did the dishes if you were not the cook.

Lots of good times spent around the dinner table in my house.  My dad and I still have the same table that we ate on for years. It serves us well and still is a place where we talk about events of the day. Share ideas and thoughts with each other.

Out in the country where I grew up we have limited stations on the TV and no video games to play.  We plays with marbles, legos, G.I. Joes, Tonka trucks and just anything outside. So there were no cell phones at the table, no talking about what someone posted.  We talked about ourselves, our lives, what we are doing or want to do with our lives.  The focus was on our family, not others.

There are numerous papers and studies that show, kids and teens who have dinner with their family on a regular basis are more likely to just be good kids. Less drugs, less alcohol, and better relationships with their parents.

I know that when I was growing up that some nights we did not get to have that time to eat together since we were doing events or school function.

If you do not have time to have that family meal, at least 3 times a week.  Then maybe you need to cut something out and make the time.  Just my thoughts and observations.

You are a special kind of stupid aren't you?

I started this post the other day and it was titled something else and decided to change it since people never cease to amaze me. I know a lot of people. They either worked with me, were one of my employees when I managed people, or friends and family.  I like to follow a wide variety of people on my twitter account.  I think it's important to get a well rounded idea of what people think and believe.      There are some horrific tragedies that have occurred in our country.   They are tragedies that we have seen in the past and will continue to see in the future.  We as Americans come together and support each other, we provide support, food, money, and a prayer.  All are important to the process of rebuilding their lives that have been destroyed.      Theordore Rosevelt was fond of the West African Proverb "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Pretty good saying in my book. ...

Clean your Windshield

It’s that time of year where people will have the “new year, new me” phrase going strong. For many that will last about 2-3 weeks.  For others they will last well into mid-year. I am of the philosophy that you should make changes immediately in life. If you need to start eating healthier then go to the cupboard and fridge and throw out all unhealthy food. If you are going to stop drinking, throw out all your booze. (Rest a sure this will not happen in my house.) If you are going to start working harder on your livestock, turn off your phones and get to the barn. If you are going to sit back and re-evaluate your life while planning for new adventures, sit down and make a list. Every one of these goals requires you to clean your windshield to see what is ahead of you.  As we go down the highway of life we have a big broad windshield in front of us. We can see great distances and have great hopes of what I'd to come in our lives. In-order to see down that road, you must clea...

What do you know about your Purebred Cattle?

There has been a small discussion on one social media site about a certain Hereford Bull not testing 100% Hereford.  I am not going to go into depth on the who was right or wrong or what the truth is about that bull.  What I want to talk about is cattle being purebred anymore or do you know the true lineage of your cattle?  For years we have known that some animals were not 100% purebred.  When I was younger being purebred was a status that people took pride in with their herds.  Today I believe a lot of people still take pride in their purebred operations.      For years people have known that real money is made in commercial cattle.  The Purebred cattle industry was/is the upper echelon of cattle.  These are the cattle that people took to fairs to exhibit.  They took to their state fairs to see what prize they could obtain with their homegrown bulls and heifers. There are also some great advantages to taking ...
