What is Next?

There are a lot of times when we come to that place in the road and are trying to decide where to go, we ask ourselves, what is next. It could be at the end of a job, or the start of a new adventure.  Some people spend a lot of time wondering about what is next and trying to predict or change the outcome. I am a big believer in everything happens for a reason.

The question I have is why do we not make choices that benefit us now, and also benefit us down the road. So many times we will jump out of a situation instead of sticking it out in the tough times. There are times when we never see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Other times we see the light at the end and are not sure we can make it, or even want to make it to the end.

So what does all this babble mean? I believe that if more people make choices that benefit them and their families now, while still seeing a better end or light at the end of the tunnel.  Then life would improve for all.  We really live in a "now" society as well as a "me" generation.  The sense of entitlement in this country is horrible. I am amazed at what people feel they are entitled too.

At the end of the day, I feel I am entitled to a fair wage for a fair days work. I feel I am entitled to respect from others that is earned.  The funny part is, both of those require effort on my part.  I honestly do not mind working. I enjoy meeting new people, getting to figure out how they tick and some interesting facts.  Currently I work in a position that is not too challenging for me mentally. It's a very laid back atmosphere and that is a great change of pace.

There is a trade off for that privilege in a job.  The pay is not what it could be for a job that requires more attention, thought, and effort.  Also, there is a challenge that comes with certain positions.  When you face that challenge and conquer the task or overcome the hurdle. You almost feel like you won a huge award. That is called a sense of accomplishment.  This is something that you can actually do in any position if you work hard enough.

So, what is next?  There are times when you realize that sitting in one space doing the same task over and over again is not your cup of tea.  We all do daily tasks because they have to be done and make us good stewards of our lives and this world.  Other tasks need to be done to make our future brighter. Tough hurdles need to be crossed and venture down roads not taken to get to the best possible place we can be as humans.

I don't want a lot in this world. A job that allows me to pay my bills, save a little, and just be able to enjoy friends and family without much concern.  I honestly have never wanted to be wealthy to the point of never having to work.  I would rather be able to work and take that extra that I have and give to others. Work with organizations that mean a lot to me and then also provide for my loved ones.

So I ask you and everyone that reads.  What is next? What is the next step in your life that you will take that allows you to get to that light at the end of the tunnel? Where do you go to brighten your future?  I ask myself that question daily.  I do know few things to be the truth.  You might not like to weed eat your grass every other week or mow your lawn.  We do it so we do not have homes that look trashy.  We do it make sure that seedlings do not grow into trees and bushes in our fence lines that cause problems down the road.

When that is all done, what do you want to do with your life that allows you the time to weed eat the fence rows, mow the lawn and been good stewards of the land?  At one point in recent times I believed I wanted less responsibility in my job.  I find that very boring.  There is something about a challenge that really keeps me interested and wanting to do more for my job.  I want to work to live, not live to work. Although I have found that if I want to live a little easier, I need to work a little more then I am now.  So the question for me and for us all is, What is next?
