In the world we live in abbreviations are more popular than ever. I am not the oldest person in the room normally. I do know what some abbreviations mean today and from days past. P.S. is written at the end of a letter and means Post Script. This means is was an added not to the information listed in it's above letter. Etc is abbreviated for et cetera. You can look it up if you do not know that meaning, it's worth a google.
It seems to me that using some of the current abbreviated writing or texting has infected our society. People are talking in the same terms. Does anyone else see the problem here? Do people not understand if you can not communicate effectively, you will never get ahead. I am not talking about people with accents or dialects from different regions. There are people from the south with their slow drawl that will put Harvard Grads to shame in a debate.
I admit to using abbreviations when texting friends, or even in emails at times. I avoid these abbreviations when not appropriate. On the flip side I find myself saying a few of these in my head more than one time a day. WTH and WTF tend to be the most common that pop up in my head. LOL
Lets go down a road of things that make me or even others use these abbreviations on a daily basis. Some of these are very appropriate in my book.
- When did it become appropriate for parents to give up their kids time to a TV, cell phone or computer to keep them occupied? WTH??!!! My parents did not have too peal me away from the TV after the Saturday morning Cartoons.
Lists like this could go on forever. I am not going to bore you with all these examples. I am going to take a minute to give you this piece of advice. Turn off your phones, computers and TVs (after you finish my blog) and go outside. Play with your kids in the yard. Go to a park or a friends and read a book outside. Not a book on your Kindle, a real book that you hold in your hands. Write an letter to a friend you have not chatted with in a long time.
We will only continue to decline as a society if we allow some of these "conveniences" to interrupt our lives. This is one reason kids from rural areas tend to be so successful. If you learn to play in the mud and dirt, you don't mind getting dirty when necessary. Plus it also allows people to grow and gain a broader perspective on life.
When we start to simplify our lives and get comfortable with who we are as people. We will start to use less of these abbreviations. We will start to laugh more at people that do use them in a serious manner. We will remember that sometimes it's better to stop and process, speak, or write down a complete thought instead of abbreviating. Not everyone can understand when you use abbreviations and it is not professional or appropriate.
Instead of abbreviating everything in our lives, why not live life to the fullest. Take a day where you and your family or friends, spend time together and have not electronic devices. Do not use abbreviations for anything in speaking to each other. Find out what it means to really communicate on a one on one level. You might be surprised what you find out about each other.

- Why does our country let small, trivial topics dominate news and our lives? WTH?? Caitlyn Jenner is not a hero and not even news. Does any one remember that the Whitehouse recently set up a none gender specific restroom? The Whitehouse also just appointed a new Outreach and Recruitment Director in the Presidential Personnel Office. They just so happen to be a transgender person. Honestly I really don't care.
- Why are so many teachers having inappropriate relationships with their students? OMG!!! I will be honest, I believe relationships like these are nothing new. We live in a society where we have more access to information. You can also get caught more easily.
- When did showing your boobs or ass in public, where kids are, become acceptable? WTF??? People need to have some self respect, manners, and decency. You do not show your privates in public, that is why they are called privates!
