Equality is a word that has been used heavily in the media and in D.C. People are screaming for equality in rights, work, and for their health. This is a touchy subject for some, for me I have a different train of thought.
People should not be discriminated against for the color of their skin, their beliefs or even sexual orientation. I also do not think that people should be targeted for their beliefs or used as examples. One of the greatest wrongs we do is to judge others.
Governments and people spend a lot of time telling people what they should and should be doing in this world and country. Rules are a necessity in a civilized society. The problem is using those rules to force people to think a certain way. This is a fine line in government and the way our country is ran.
The basics are this, do right by your fellow man and he should do right by you. Seems like a simple enough philosophy. We run into the problem that people tend to think more about themselves than others. As a society we legislate our morality instead of teaching morality, right or wrong and teaching respect of others.
Here we go:
- Recently many of the idiots in D.C have made statements that should make everyone shake their heads in disbelief. Calling law abiding citizens who might not pay fines for grazing cattle that are helping to feed a nation a domestic terrorist does not make any sense. There are people that are real terrorist with ties to radical groups and they are scared to say anything. WHAT???!!!!!
- Affirmative action has now been heard two different times by the SCOTUS (Supreme Court). Certain people and groups do not want minorities to be discriminated against due to race. However, they want all those in the minorities to get ahead based solely on their race and not what they can actually produce. WHAT???!!!!!
- The Attorney General of the U.S. recently said remarks that would lead MANY people to believe he was inappropriately talked too by congress due to his race. He also stated that the POTUS has the same issue. I guess they both tend to forget that the previous Attorney General (Hispanic) and POTUS went through extreme scrutiny on both sides of the isle. Yet everyone on the left wants us to believe it's racist. WHAT???!!!!
There were many examples of in-equality in healthcare in the last election. Women were screaming that their contraceptives were not covered like Viagra for men. The actual truth is, it was covered the same way. Women could get a pill, shot or diaphragm for about the same copay as prescription of Viagra. They are both something that had to be prescribed by a doctor and taken to a pharmacy to pick up.
There many types of contraceptives for women and even many types of male enhancements for men. Not all of these were covered by healthcare and not all were at a low cost. Forgive me, I am not seeing the in-equality yet.
Recent remarks by the POTUS have talked about equal pay for equal jobs. That does not hold water with me for this reason. If I bust my hump to work longer hours, do more work and achieve more in my job I should receive better pay. The other person who does not put in the same effort will get the same pay just because of their gender does not seem equal. We as a society have to start removing the gender and race crutches that allow people to get ahead for those sole reasons.
So there were many out there examples in this post. At the end of the day, equal rights is lacking a lot in logic and merit. Do I believe that people should be treated the same for benefits and partnerships. For the most part yes. However, I don't know why myself or anyone has to marry a person, to have benefits and rights. Why must a court decide who gets what money or benefits. That should be left up to the people to decide. Maybe the answer is not more rules, maybe it is less government.
We are not all equal. Every person brings different talents, and ideas to the table. It is not up to use to decide who is better than the other. It is up to us as a society to decide if we believe them or not. Forcing everyone to believe the same ideas or get the same pay for work doesn't allow for much creativity or expansion. We are the country that created the internet and many other great ideas and inventions based on hard work. Only through hard work does anyone achieve anything in life.
I think it's ironic, the more progressives push for equality and for everyone to have the same everything. The less we produce, create or invent as a nation. It is each of our individual talents, beliefs and ideas that bring us together as a country. That is what drives innovation as well as spark new business. Those items as well as hard work is what makes this a great country. If you place two people in separate rooms. Ask them to perform the same task. The end results may be similar, yet one will most likely be done better than the other. That person should get a larger reward for doing a better job. Take out the race and gender issues.
Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish.
