Accountability & Demise

This might seem like an odd title to a blog.  It has to do with a lot that has been on my mind lately. For those that want to know I am 38 years old and most of my adult life has been in a leadership or managerial role.  The older I get the more I realize I like to fix problems.  No matter where the problem is located, I want to assist or fix the situation.

Today's media and instant access to information has been a great accomplishment of this century.  People have instant access to all sorts of information and knowledge.  There are some issues that are just now showing their signs.  The issues are not only with our children, it is with our adults as well.

Many see the end of the world as invasion by aliens, zombie attach, meteor attach or the burning up of the ozone layer.  Most of these are actually ridiculous options and even recent reports show polar caps are not melting away. I believe we will and have started to see a demise of our world and country by many others means.  Here is a list of examples:

  • Loss of moral structure in our everyday life.
  • Availability of information 24/7; when people are not taught to question what they read. (except my blog.... lol)
  • Professional Athletes getting paid Millions of dollars for doing what they "love" to do, while not being held accountable for what they do on the side.
  • Politicians can speak any about anything they want as if they are experts and not be held accountable.
  • Organizations force businesses to close because they "happen" to not believe what the group thinks they should.
  • Parents care more about how they look or what they have instead of what they need and what their children need.
  • Companies are so bogged down with regulations and the fear of being sued, they have to hold a strong hand down on their employees.
  • Groups are more concerned about hearing a prayer in public, they would rather just not hear it at all.
  • News organizations can say anything they want to get their agenda across and have no accountability.
  • Kids can take pictures, post their thoughts and ideas for the entire world to see. There is some with no supervision and can say whatever they want.
  • Mothers and fathers are more concerned with how they look, what they drive or what they wear, instead of showing the value and beauty of life.
Okay so the list is long.  What I want to show is that we have a lot of dysfunction in this world. The values of what we believe and the difference in right or wrong can be so skewed that it's no wonder we have the problems we have in this country.

I am not proposing that we only go down one path or one way of thinking.  The problems we have is cultural.  We see societies that are based on progressive ideas and believe that if we do everything the same for everyone, we will all get along and no problems.  Well one problem, we are not all alike, and I am pretty sure I do not want an artist in New York who eats only tofu, assisting a cow on my ranch having a calf.  I do not want a janitor taking out my appendix.  I do not want broker on wall street trying to change the oil in my truck.

This does not mean we will not find people in those areas very capable of handling the tasks.  This means that ALL people in those areas are NOT cut out to handle those tasks.  We are not all the same, yet our goal should be the same or similar for us all.  We should want our country to never loose the foundation it was built on and to always see our people FREE to respect others while still maintaining their own identity.  We should see people to practice their religion without persecution.  We should see our governments to govern without dictating morality.  We should see a society that understands that god plays a role in our lives, that does not mean we let god govern out lives in every form or fashion.

Whether or not you believe that god exists should not be the question. Trying to have certain items removed because a SMALL group feels offended is not the answer. Letting our kids decide which bathroom they should go to is not the answer.  Letting politicians tell parents how to raise their kids is not the answer.  Making it more profitable for people not to work is not the answer.

When people at the company I work for do something wrong, they are not held accountable. When we allow people, celebrities, politicians, co-workers, friends and even family to do something, or say something that is false, hurtful, damaging or just stupid and wrong, we are not holding them accountable.

There is an old saying, it's harder to lie than to tell the truth.  Telling the truth does not require you to remember anything you do not already know.

So, what does all this rambling and complaining come down too?!  It comes down to this for me.  When we as a society or individual continue or allow for people to not be held accountable in all facets of life we will see a demise in our society.  The trend has already started.  We see a lot of headlines that should be disturbing to everyone.

The mass killings we have seen in the last few years are by people that are mentally insane. People that should have been with some sort of professional help.  They are not by law abiding citizens who follow the rules. Oh wait, rules, those are the things that government wants everyone to follow except those that break them, they can be rehabilitated and it's fine.

You know why I have faith in this country.  I get to participate in the wonderful world of agriculture.  I see FAMILIES working together to get animals ready, and to get daily tasks completed.  I know that without agriculture everyone in this country and most of the world would starve to death.  I know that with people leading one of the most important industry that exist.

When a farmer or a rancher does not want to go out in that rain, snow, or burning sun, they still do it.  They know what they do in this world makes a difference and has an affect on others.  We live in a world where too many people do not understand that what they do has an affect on other people.  We live in a world where it's okay to be mean, or dress inappropriately or even say inappropriate statements and not be held accountable.

We can live without movies, we can even live out malls, we can live without computers (yes i know the irony), we can even live without music from huge companies.  What this country needs is more accountability in what we do in our lives.  We need to make sure the demise of our country and our children do not happen because we continue to let people, organizations and most importantly our government.  These are things that each and everyone of us are responsible for in making sure we secure a better nation.

It was accountability that Nixon feared.
