This is a topic that people are all over the board. Some love them, some hate them, some watch a few shows only. My philosophy on reality TV is that "I live in reality, every day, with bills, concerns and where my actions count."
Some of the shows that are on TV now have a great message. Others are the wrong examples for everyone. I strongly believe parents should be the ones talking to their kids about which shows are right or wrong to be watching and explaining why. The problem is we have parents who are OBSESSED with reality TV!!
Shows that have a message of family, sticking together, working together and staying positive are most of the time great for people to watch. Now, does that mean you have to go on a desert island to live off the land to survive to get all that, you can, my question is why? It's not reality for people in America.
With the shows dedicated to showcasing peoples talents like singing and so forth, I believe those people really want to make it doing what they have a true passion for in life. Those people are doing what they should be doing to pursue their dreams.
All the other shows that have "ordinary people" come on in my opinion, do us no good as a society. Those that try out to live in a house, or on an island, or to find romance do not promote a healthy way of life or a realistic view of the world. Even though a lot of people will hate me for putting this down, people now only want to go on reality TV to be a star. People do not always have a healthy outlook when they try out for these shows.
There is a show that allows people to travel all over the world and do physical challenges which allows people to actually experience new adventures and places. I like that shows for the reason of its not about who you are and the people that go on that shows tend to have good intentions. It's also a show that draws a different type of viewer and requires more thought then how to screw your opponent. (sorry for the language)
Reality TV is not good for our society or people in general. It's given people something to obsess over that is not even close to the real world as we know it. I know that TV is suppose to help people forget about everyday life. I think we do ourselves and our children an injustice when we watch some shows all the time and not really looking at what it teaches us as people. The time people are watching these shows could be put to much better use, read 3 or 4 chapters in a new book, work on planning your meals for next week, or even sit and have a conversation with the TV turned off! (OH GASP)
As people buy bigger TV's and even spend more time watching their shows or recording every episode. I believe we would be much better off if we spend more time sitting on the porch watching cars pass by or the cows in the field. I believe we would be much better off if we played ball with the kids, went for a walk or even started a small project. These are items and activities that do so much more for us as a society then watching another show.
The reality TV we need to start watching and following is that of our own lives. If we want a break away from it, find a way to do it that does not involve turning on the TV. Read books, news papers, start a home project, or even teach yourself a new task (cooking is always fun). lol
So in closing this randomness that is me and my blog is, reality TV is not that real. It's still produced by people in NY or Hollywood that want YOU to see only the things they feel you need. That is not reality. It's actually a form of propaganda and a little brain washing. Scary thought, however one many levels it's true. Someone is controlling everything you see and steering you in a direction they want you to go with the shows. Some food for thought on a late week night!
