Recent polls show that when asking young people what they want to be when they grow up, most say a social media influencer. Tiktok is an app that allows you to do all sorts of things on video. Then you post it for the world to view and see how many likes you can get.
In 2022 there are a few things that need to stop. Please stop making lip synching videos and posting them on the internet. You will never be Mille Vanillie. Stop letting 20 something gym junkies tell you that carbs are bad for you and you must take their caffeine fueled supplements to lose weight. And finally, people please pick one hair color and stick with it. It’s okay to do some highlights still. The three layers of playdoh colored hair are getting old.
I digress. There is a real issue though with people seeking fame. It is one of the greatest downfalls of our society and the internet. Now, there is a difference in being famous for putting out informative, helpful, and content that can make our lives better. Dancing and lip synching to ABBA’s song “Dancing Queen”, while funny, is not content with character.
Maybe that is what we are missing more of in our society - character. Real morals, obligations, and work ethic that drives our society. When you ask a kid if they would rather post stuff on the internet all day or go dig a ditch, build fence, or shovel manure, most will choose option 1. There are plenty of young people who will choose the hard work. Their parents showed them how. They had leaders that taught them lessons of hard work. They understand what is real and what is not.
If we stop seeking fame in life and work hard to become a good person. You will be famous enough. Mother Teresa, Gandhi, and even Martin Luther King became famous without the internet. The content of their character spoke for itself. That is what our goals should be.
As I write this I have not downloaded tiktok, I have most notifications turned off on my social media, and fame is not what I seek. I honestly want to change the world to be a better place. We all need to have goals in life and the steps we take today will help you achieve those goals in the future.
