I remember growing up that it was important in life to be a bigger person. Make the responsible choices. Act accordingly when someone does you wrong. Being the bigger person is all about attitude and mentality.
People who are mean, angry, and confrontational will a lot of times have a good reason to be that way. Sometimes people have wronged them, other times it’s a compilation of emotions building up over time. Either way you have to deal with those emotions in your life. Some cope by eating, others by drinking, and some by physical activity to work out their troubles in life.
I am a believer in picking your poison. Whatever vice you have that helps you cope is what you should use. The problem is we all use these to extremes. Drinking too much on a regular basis affects you in unimaginable ways. Moderation of alcohol has shown to actually be good for your body. The problem is many take it to extremes.
Food is another vice many turn too. We all have over indulged and felt the pain for it later. Many people eat to an extreme. Some people have always been large, even from a young age. Some have medical issues behind it. Food though is a great coping mechanism. It satisfies you and sugar is an addictive intoxicant like alcohol.
We use these as crutches to make ourselves feel better about life, or to justify other people’s treatment of us. If you want to be the bigger person in life, you have to stand up for yourself first. You have to put your health as a priority. Both mental and physical health. Once you make that decision or get assistance doing so, your life will make huge progressive steps. You will be that bigger person who starts to see the world a little differently.
Some people are horrible individuals whether they are drunk or sober, or skinny or fat. Those people are still struggling with their own demons. The best option is to pray for them on a regular basis. Once you are the bigger person, you will see those signs much clearer.
If someone is 450 pounds and large their entire life, would you even notice if they lost 70 pounds? What if a person who drank all the time and was a functioning alcoholic stopped drinking? Would you know it?
To be the bigger person, you have to treat each of those people at each stage of life the same. No matter if they are fat or skinny, drunk or sober. You make a choice in how you treat others. That kindness you show, may be the encouragement that person needs to become the bigger person.
