I am not sure the title of this article needs any explanation. We should know that we have a 100% chance of nothing happening in our lives, if we fear it so much, we never make an attempt. What we do not know is what will happen or change because we did make an attempt.
Fear of failure is in our heads and a powerful emotion. Especially for people who hate to fail or be wrong. The only option is to do it. Years ago, an employer asked me if I was fearful of losing a job. I said no, because I will find other work. Overcoming that fear of failure usually happens after you have failed. Once you realize the world doesn’t end, things will be alright.
Lessons in life come from both success and failure. It is growth as humans. Certain predators stay away from porcupines because of fear of getting stuck by their quills. One predator of porcupines is a Fisher. They are a member of the weasel family. They will continually attack a porcupine at its head until it dies. This is to avoid the quills.
Animals in nature have a hierarchy structure. They have for centuries and similar hierarchy applies in humans. Humans are not preset to be a success or failure. They are groomed and trained by life lessons and the world around them to form opinions and make decisions.
If you choose to hang around Fishers all the time and you are a porcupine, it will inevitably not end well. However, if you are a porcupine and choose to hang around other porcupines as you learn and grow, you will most likely not have the same outcome in life.
You do get to choose the table you sit at in life. You sit with people who lie, leech off society, or are criminals, your chances of becoming one of those is greater. There is nothing wrong with working at McDonald’s to get a leg up in life. If you work hard, fast food managers make a pretty decent living. Same thing for grocery store managers.
Choose a better neighborhood to work or one more aligned with your goals. See how your world will change. Do not fear moving up in life. You will kill more dreams with fear than failure. Failure is not final.
“Just take the chance. Being wrong is not bad, being a failure is not bad. What is bad is not even taking the chance.” – Jeremy Workman
