We are all many things in life. We all carry multiple hats. Some we wear straight and well; others are a little crooked. That is okay. Working and striving to be better is all anyone can ask. Doing more than one thing in life is expected. It has been since the beginning of time. There will always be multiple roles to manage as we navigate this thing called life.
Here is a list of things I am and that matter in my life.
I am a son. Sometimes not the best, I try.
I am a brother. I hope I was the best brother. I miss that role.
I am an uncle. I care for those kids as if they were my own.
I am a writer who works to get better every day.
I am a baker. I have a chess pie and sweet potato pie recipes that will make you slap your grandmothers.
I am a livestock judge. I love sorting animals, working with kids, and people.
I am a photographer. I love taking pictures and nowhere near good yet.
I am someone who motivates. Hopefully, helping people find purpose, focus on important issues, and get through daily life struggles.
I am a friend - not always the best, but I care for my friends as they are my family.
This is a long list and encompasses a lot of roles. The truth is, we can be whoever we want to be in life. If you want to run a resale shop and find junk and antiques all over, then be the best at it or work towards being the best.
I know what I am in this game of life. I am 46 now and it took me until my 40th birthday to discover it and to figure out what I did and didn’t want in this life.
What are you? What are your “I am's" in life? I think if we don’t know who we are or realize that we are all more than one thing in life, then we are not really living. Don’t let society or groups define who you are, that is your job to figure out.
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
