Not Living in Fear

Growing up in the country there is plenty most people would be scared of in life. One thing my parents tried to instill in me was not to be afraid. There were plenty of times in my life when I was afraid. Even as an adult. The older I get though, the less fear I have in life. Call it strength or understanding of the world. We get along better in life with less fear.

When I was growing up, we had a 1940’s farm house with no central heat or a/C. I remember one spring or summer day I was walking around to the front of the house. And there was this huge snake on the steps of the front porch. I slowly just walked away to the back of the house and called out for mom or dad. The snake was gone when we went out the front door to check.

Living in that house we had plenty of encounters with snakes. It was the country and that was an old house. We had an old well house beside it. I still don’t like snakes and if I see one, I might scream like a little girl. The difference is, I will kill it if it’s a bad one. That fear is still there, I don’t live with fear of snakes all the time or if I am going to see one.

Being liked seems to be a big fear for many people and part of a person’s insecurities. Will I get asked out to the prom? Will they accept my invitation to go to dinner? Will I be invited to their party? At the end of the day, do not worry about being invited. Make your own party, be your own dinner date, I am a great dinner date to myself by the way. Most importantly, love yourself enough so you don’t worry about what others think. Hard to do, you have to practice.

Fear of those in powerful positions is something many people struggle with in life. We should never fear those in power. We should respect them and be cordial. Some bosses still have a fear mongering attitude and pray on weak people. The problem is you have two sets of people who are both living in fear. Neither knows how to work with someone and not for someone out of fear. Leaders lead and will work by example.

Someone asked me once if I was scared to lose my job. My response has been for years, no I will find another one. Something better that I love doing. Or I might just start my own business. There is plenty of fear in starting a business, not as much as working in a place where you are overwhelmed, underpaid, and not appreciated. With a feeling you are trapped.

Being trapped or having that feeling of being trapped is a horrible feeling. I have had jobs and even friendships where I thought I had to be loyal and obey, not raise a fuss. At the end of the day, I was just a badge at the time clock and those friendships were toxic. Getting out of both made me a better and more successful person.

At the end of the day, when we come upon a fearful situation like a snake, not being liked, or underappreciated in a job, understand, there is more to life. You will kill the bad snakes, get better friends, and find a better career. This is Not Living in Fear.

Letting people who you don’t know and have never met, tell you how to live your life, are the ones that have fear. They fear freedom, they fear people’s right to choose, and they fear not being told they are a good person for following the rules.

Screw your rules and how you think I should live my life. You are not a good person for following the masses. You are nothing more than a sheep to slaughter. Live your life the way you see fit. Simple rules to life, don’t harm others, don’t smoke meth, and take care of yourself and family. Remember to not live in fear.

From the great mind of Albert Einstein, “Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease only at death.”

You are a special kind of stupid aren't you?

I started this post the other day and it was titled something else and decided to change it since people never cease to amaze me. I know a lot of people. They either worked with me, were one of my employees when I managed people, or friends and family.  I like to follow a wide variety of people on my twitter account.  I think it's important to get a well rounded idea of what people think and believe.      There are some horrific tragedies that have occurred in our country.   They are tragedies that we have seen in the past and will continue to see in the future.  We as Americans come together and support each other, we provide support, food, money, and a prayer.  All are important to the process of rebuilding their lives that have been destroyed.      Theordore Rosevelt was fond of the West African Proverb "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Pretty good saying in my book. ...

Clean your Windshield

It’s that time of year where people will have the “new year, new me” phrase going strong. For many that will last about 2-3 weeks.  For others they will last well into mid-year. I am of the philosophy that you should make changes immediately in life. If you need to start eating healthier then go to the cupboard and fridge and throw out all unhealthy food. If you are going to stop drinking, throw out all your booze. (Rest a sure this will not happen in my house.) If you are going to start working harder on your livestock, turn off your phones and get to the barn. If you are going to sit back and re-evaluate your life while planning for new adventures, sit down and make a list. Every one of these goals requires you to clean your windshield to see what is ahead of you.  As we go down the highway of life we have a big broad windshield in front of us. We can see great distances and have great hopes of what I'd to come in our lives. In-order to see down that road, you must clea...

It is Just a Show

In the beginning I was not a watcher or a fan. There was a lot of talk. Chatter online. Then I decided to tune and check out all the hype. There is cattle, ranching, horses, politics, drama, and suspense. This show was a creation from the mind of a very creative horse jockey. The story is well written, the acting is superb, and the raw attitude is what brings people back each week. This show hits an audience that is hungry for real talk, real action, and real results. The bad part is it is all fiction.  The show is full of wrong information. Actions that make no sense. Calves do not jump up and start running immediately after being born. Most cattle ranches don’t take their hands and shoot them off a cliff if their employment has ended. They don’t brand their workers for show of loyalty. The good news is it is all fiction.  The characters in the show are people you either love or hate. They are characters that bring a lot of talent to the show. These people come from ma...
