Labor Day Thoughts

The celebration of Labor Day got its roots in the late 1800’s/early 1900’s. There was a lot of political back and forth between labor unions and employers. The working conditions where not the most ideal back in those times. The day was created and later became a national holiday to celebrate the workers of this great nation. The funny part is, for a lot of people, they still have a 12+ hour work day. These people work in horrible conditions and in all elements of weather. You see, it takes all kinds of people to make this great country be successful.
Personally, I have a lot to be thankful for in life. I am blessed with a healthy Father, 2 great nephews, and more outstanding friends than person deserves!!! I wake up every day saying Thank You to the lord for those blessings. Recently I changed jobs. Going to a company that is expanding due to the economy and industry it specializes in growing. The demand for their products and economic outlook is positive.
The opportunity of this job was made possible by my hard work. The job itself is possible due to the current economic conditions.  This was not possible just over a year ago. There are many people in the company that would will confirm this point. It is due to the current administration that I can provide better for my family, feel like there is more opportunities for me and hope that the future will be bright.
For years now, I have worked with people who are in the elements every day!! These are men and women who sweat, freeze, and still come to work to do the best job they can do. There are thousands of jobs that are not in ideal work conditions. Farmers, ranchers, linemen, plumbers, electricians, and factory workers. All of these and many more work days that are longer than 8 hours, outside in the elements. Making sure their lively hoods are protected and they are doing all they can to make a living for their family.
People like these have hope because they see the business picking up. Businesses are hiring more people and trying to expand their small businesses. This is what America is about and this is what happens when you peel back regulations and let companies have a chance to succeed. Leave government out of the companies lives and the country will prosper. Even back in the industrial revolution, when manufacturers like Henry Ford came up with the 8-hour work day, he saw the benefits of treating his people better and received better workers with better production.
Personally, I have been an adult worker through multiple Presidents. This is the first time that a POTUS done what he said he was going to do for American workers. Clinton, Bush, Obama all used political rhetoric, words, war and at the end of the day never stood up for the American Worker. They did not say they will bring back jobs and make good on that promise. The last President told the American people “We will not see economic growth above 3%, we have to get use to these type of terror attacks in this country, and they are nothing but gun clinging bible thumpers.” These people were politicians!!! They were always about politics and what was in it for them as a President. They let jobs go overseas and signed agreements that have hurt segments of our country for years.
We are in a great time in our country. People that have no college education, little experience are starting to get jobs they never would before due to employers giving people chances. Young people are getting off their phones and into jobs where they will learn more than they ever will from a computer screen. There are people who gave up looking for work, getting work. From jobs being posted, most of these jobs pay MORE than minimum wage. They offer competitive wages, many with benefits. That is something that people are not talking about though on the news. They are also not talking about how those that literally build this country are experiencing growth opportunities that have not seen in years.
Some people have the audacity to tell me that the tax cuts did not help. I personally saw the benefit of these cuts in my own paycheck. This is a time when people cannot separate themselves from politics to see what benefits are arising in our Country. We can all understand that the less money we pay a foreign country to buy our goods means more money in the pockets of American producers and companies. No one has been able to explain why our farmers, ranchers and manufacturers, who have some of the healthiest and highest quality products should pay more out of their pockets in trade tariffs. These are tariffs that have been in place for years. This is one reason companies like Ford and Chevrolet built plants overseas to avoid the tariffs those countries were charging for their products.
Labor Day is a day that should be celebrated for the American Workers. The people that put in an honest day’s work and get an honest day’s wage. If you choose to bag groceries at a Trader Joe’s or start your own company out of your apartment. You have the freedom to do so and it should be done without people judging you for what you are doing and a government that allows you to do it without a bunch of red tape. People should be encouraging others, thanking them for the job they are doing and appreciate their hard work. Every day you should thank those that do something for you, even if it is their job. They may be getting paid to it, acknowledging they are doing it is sometimes worth more than you can ever imagine.
"I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that the world owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunity to make a living." ~John D. Rockefeller
