The Power to Change

There are a few certainties that I know to be true as an adult. The first is grey hair creeps up on us all. The second is we as adults bear the burden of caring for our older generation. The third is change happens all the time. These situations are somewhat out of our control. I do know plenty of women that spend LOTS of money and time in a chair every 4-6 week taking care of one of these issues. That is fine, and I have no problem with people taking actions to limit the affect. It does not change the fact that their hair is gray. It just changes how people perceive their hair color.

Since the beginning of time, change has been a constant in our existence on this planet. I used to work for a major health insurance company. The first letter of the company name began with a C. The inside joke was that the C stood for Change. The reason is, every time we turned around, something changed. The company I work for now has been going through many changes since a buy out last year. There are many more to come and that is expected. My point to all this is we are always in a status of change many aspects of our lives.

Pioneers like Tesla, Ford, Vanderbilt, and Carnegie changed the way our world worked. These were American inventors that had ideas, visions and concepts of what could be in the world. They knew they were changing the world, what they didn’t know is where it would evolve too. The power these men held still have affects in today’s world. The power of their change is tremendous and life altering for everyone on the planet.

In a new year many people want to set resolutions and have these grand goals for their lives. People should do everything they can to achieve these goals. People who set goals need to work every day to achieve success. No one really knows what crazy idea will be life changing for millions of people. For years people have had great privacy and anonymity. What happened behind their closed doors was no one’s business but their own. Now with the age of technology we see into the homes, minds and lives of millions of people daily. The change brought about by cell phones has been exponential compared to its original design. The same can be said for all inventions. No one knows the real impact of what inventions or technology advances can be made in the beginning. The old saying is Hind Sight is 20/20.

Change can be small impacts to everyday lives. Actions we take that are common place for many can make great impacts in other lives. Holding the door open for someone, saying please and thank you. Small tokens of kindness can go a long way in life. Change can also be eating different, going to see people more often, writing letters and even picking up the phone to call a friend or loved one. Each of these might appear to be small steps to you, to someone else it could be huge and even life changing.

Welcoming change can be a scary and exhilarating feeling all at once. When we learn to roll with the ups and down life gives us, we all start to be happier. It takes a lot of strength to make small changes. Not stress eating, picking up a cigarette or even taking a drink. These and many other items can be changed once you accept who you are as a person. Once you are comfortable in your own skin, you find more strength than you can imagine. Self confidence is key and loving who you are is critical to a happy life. That is why we should do small acts of kindness that can make great impacts in other peoples lives, all the while we are just being friendly.

So, if you have grey hair and you want to color it, that is fine. If you have an older cell phone that still works, that is fine. If you have an older person that you care for, that is fine. We all bare burdens in life. Pick up the phone and make the call to your friends. Sit down and write a hand-written note to a loved one. Take that vision of your dream and chase it because it is only you that can make change in life. Only you have that power.

You are a special kind of stupid aren't you?

I started this post the other day and it was titled something else and decided to change it since people never cease to amaze me. I know a lot of people. They either worked with me, were one of my employees when I managed people, or friends and family.  I like to follow a wide variety of people on my twitter account.  I think it's important to get a well rounded idea of what people think and believe.      There are some horrific tragedies that have occurred in our country.   They are tragedies that we have seen in the past and will continue to see in the future.  We as Americans come together and support each other, we provide support, food, money, and a prayer.  All are important to the process of rebuilding their lives that have been destroyed.      Theordore Rosevelt was fond of the West African Proverb "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Pretty good saying in my book. ...

Clean your Windshield

It’s that time of year where people will have the “new year, new me” phrase going strong. For many that will last about 2-3 weeks.  For others they will last well into mid-year. I am of the philosophy that you should make changes immediately in life. If you need to start eating healthier then go to the cupboard and fridge and throw out all unhealthy food. If you are going to stop drinking, throw out all your booze. (Rest a sure this will not happen in my house.) If you are going to start working harder on your livestock, turn off your phones and get to the barn. If you are going to sit back and re-evaluate your life while planning for new adventures, sit down and make a list. Every one of these goals requires you to clean your windshield to see what is ahead of you.  As we go down the highway of life we have a big broad windshield in front of us. We can see great distances and have great hopes of what I'd to come in our lives. In-order to see down that road, you must clea...

It is Just a Show

In the beginning I was not a watcher or a fan. There was a lot of talk. Chatter online. Then I decided to tune and check out all the hype. There is cattle, ranching, horses, politics, drama, and suspense. This show was a creation from the mind of a very creative horse jockey. The story is well written, the acting is superb, and the raw attitude is what brings people back each week. This show hits an audience that is hungry for real talk, real action, and real results. The bad part is it is all fiction.  The show is full of wrong information. Actions that make no sense. Calves do not jump up and start running immediately after being born. Most cattle ranches don’t take their hands and shoot them off a cliff if their employment has ended. They don’t brand their workers for show of loyalty. The good news is it is all fiction.  The characters in the show are people you either love or hate. They are characters that bring a lot of talent to the show. These people come from ma...
