There are always times in my life when it's nice to take a step back and get some clarity on a situation. This is something that can be done in many ways. Getting up and taking a walk, deep long breathes, or a glass of bourbon. I am not here to judge, just to blog! I believe that getting clarity on a situation or event in your life is very important. As a society we tend to loose sight of the big picture, whether is be in a specific event, task or even in life in general. Lets take a little time to look at clarity in this blog.
Merriam Webster defines clarity as the following: the quality or state of being clear: lucidity. Okay so that is good. What does it mean to you or to me? Well for me it means I am comfortable in the path that I am on or the options I have chosen in life. For others it may be larger and have to have deep meanings in their life as a whole. I am not sure that any of us have true clarity all the time. The phrase rose colored glasses comes to mind. Events, people and peoples actions tend to cloud our judgement sometimes. We have to decipher what is going on around each of us or those closest to us in everyday life.
As a species we want to help others. We are animals that seek companionship, family and trust in our herds. Humans run in packs as much as any animal group that exists. With that being said finding clarity is something that not everyone has to do all the time. Different people can have their moments of lucidity and communicate that to their herd. There will always tend to be a leader in the herds. A true leader will listen to everyone to help form the best decision and path for the herd to travel. Word of advice: Don't ALWAYS follow me, you will tend to end up drunk. My herd knows this well!
Clarity to me is very important. I want to understand what is going on and how things are going in my life. I have learned over the years that my definition of long term clarity changes. There are events in my future that I cannot always control. The path I take to get there I can control and how I react. This is very important for all of us to remember.
When life seems to be getting the best of you and your thoughts are all over the board. If you are struggling in a situation or event in your life. Finding that clarity and moments of lucidity are extremely important. This is where you have to take your step back and re-evaluate. Take that walk, call a friend, go to the gym and spend some time lifting weights or running. There are plenty of times reading will help clear my mind and help in clarity. Growing up in the country, sitting on the porch listening to the rain was a great way to fine clarity. It's important to stop what you are doing and work on yourself. My mother always told me, take care of number one. (AKA Me)
One of the biggest obstacles for a lot of us is remembering that other people in our herd are going through their own struggles. They may be having a worse time than we are and it's important to remember, we are not alone in our struggles. Sometimes the clarity we need is that our problem is very small compared to someone else's. At this time we should start to feel better, blessed and understand that whatever we are going through, we will get through it. Whatever test we feel like we are under, it will get better and we will pass.
Clarity is something that I have been looking for over the last week or so. It took a good session at the gym, a good book and some laughter to help me become more lucid about my world. So remember that whatever you are going through, this too shall pass. Another trait that some have to learn and practice is voicing their opinion when appropriate and necessary. I am not talking about protesting for the sake of protesting. I am referring to speaking to your herd and letting them know what you think and feel. What helps you in life may help others and you never know until you vocalize this to your herd. Carrying on conversations can help your friends with their clarity.
I know a number of times in life I have to talk through a situation or a problem and that helps me organize my thoughts to find that moment of lucidity I may have been seeking. When you have people in your herd hurting or suffering. It's not easy for them to say anything. You have to step up and be that voice. Thankfully I have that in my life and have for years. Hopefully you have that or someone to be a sounding board for you to help get clarity on a situation or even in your life.
So as we go through this roller coaster world we call life. It's important to always take a step back and find that clarity. Look for that moment of lucidity. If we approached this in more aspects of our world we would not be concerned with what others make, or what others are doing. Our concerns would be are they doing okay, does that person in my herd need my assistance. And remember, I am one guy, with one point of view in a sea of many ideas who sometimes is looking for his moments of lucidity.
"Rain is good for me. I feel like I achieve clarity actually when it rains. The longer I have to sit and wait, the clearer my game becomes to me." ~ Venus Williams
