Loosing My Religion

     Loosing my Religion is a song that was made famous in the early 90's by a band called, R.E.M.  I loved this song and many others by this band and still do today.  I am not going to spend this blog talking about the meaning of the song.  I believe people find their own meaning in songs and the words.  They speak to each of us differently.  For this blog I was actually looking at the title Finding Your Religion.  It dawned on me that they are actually one in the same meaning.

     People are always looking for a purpose, meaning or reason as to why events happen in their life or in the world.  People continually seek happiness, approval, recognition, and security in all forms of religion and outlets.  There are people that call themselves agnostic and atheist.  I have no beef or issue with these people.  I am a strong believer in you do what you wish without fear of judgment or reprisal from others.

     Religion is defined by Merriam-Webster as the following:

1 a :  the state of a religious a nun in her 20th year of religion

   

    b: (1) :  the service and worship of God or the 

          supernatural 

    

        (2) :  commitment or devotion to religious faith or observance. 


:  a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and     
      practices
  1. 3archaic :  scrupulous conformity :  conscientiousness
  2. 4:  a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith
     These words can be construed in many forms and fashions.  The sum of it all though is do you have religion in your life?  Do you want religion in your life?  Why do you loose your religion?  Why have I lost my religion?  There are many reasons or ideas as to why this happens to us all.  Life events, whether it's deaths, weddings, separation, or substances, life happens to us all and most of us move on.  We learn from the past and move on with the future.  

    I believe those that have lost their religion and not willing to find it, have little desire to find true happiness.  The old saying is misery loves company holds true while others will bring you down to their levels in life.  Many people have lost their religion and then came back to their faith.  They came back to the person they are and not who they are trying to be in life.  

     Authors and poet laureates have used words to symbolize different meanings since the beginning of the written word.  What if I told you religion was nothing more then who you are in your heart.  Religion is what you believe in and what keeps you going each and every day.  I believe that even if you do not believe in a higher being, there is still a sense of hope and faith in your heart. You may not pray every day like many of us do.  Part of your time though is still spent hoping for more or better or change.  That is faith, that is religion, that is the human spirit at it's finest.  

     There are always opportunities presented to us in life that will allow us to take a step back and breathe.  These breaks are a good way to rejuvenate our lives, our souls and our faith.  The breaks give us time to pause and look at what's really important.  The last one I had was about 5 years ago.  I lost my job at a company that I had been with for 8 years.  I worked hard for that company and when it was all over, I was VERY thankful to not be there any more.  I was very happy and found myself again.  

     When we loose our religion  there are moments in time that help us back and we have to seize those moments with vengeance.  We have to crawl, claw and capture every chance we get to get ourselves right again.  

     There are a lot of farmers and ranchers across the country, especially in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado that need our strength and faith and assistance.   Some of them are loosing their religion and others are finding solace in their faith.  They need it now and they will need all we can give as a country in the months to come so they can rebuild their lives.  

     As the hymnal goes "I was once lost, but now I am found."  For those that are lost you will be found.  Our lives are made up of many moments and events.  My life will not be changed because of what others think of me or how they treat me.  My life will change when I improve the way I think about myself and how I treat others.  This includes finding the good in people and doing more with your life.  

     Remember to take a step back in life and look at the big picture. For those that are loosing your religion.  That is the best time to Find your religion again.

Clean your Windshield

It’s that time of year where people will have the “new year, new me” phrase going strong. For many that will last about 2-3 weeks.  For others they will last well into mid-year. I am of the philosophy that you should make changes immediately in life. If you need to start eating healthier then go to the cupboard and fridge and throw out all unhealthy food. If you are going to stop drinking, throw out all your booze. (Rest a sure this will not happen in my house.) If you are going to start working harder on your livestock, turn off your phones and get to the barn. If you are going to sit back and re-evaluate your life while planning for new adventures, sit down and make a list. Every one of these goals requires you to clean your windshield to see what is ahead of you.  As we go down the highway of life we have a big broad windshield in front of us. It is Just a Show

  In the beginning I was not a watcher or a fan. There was a lot of talk. Chatter online. Then I decided to tune and check out all the hype. There is cattle, ranching, horses, politics, drama, and suspense. This show was a creation from the mind of a very creative horse jockey. The story is well written, the acting is superb, and the raw attitude is what brings people back each week. This show hits an audience that is hungry for real talk, real action, and real results. The bad part is it is all fiction.  The show is full of wrong information. Actions that make no sense. Calves do not jump up and start running immediately after being born. Most cattle ranches don’t take their hands and shoot them off a cliff if their employment has ended. They don’t brand their workers for show of loyalty.
