Passion

This is the time of year that everyone seems to filled with a lot of Passion about life.  Fall is always a great time of year with the weather changing and school getting back into full swing.  I think this is a great feeling.  When people are filled with passion it can lead to great ideas, actions and events.  There is a saying that says, "Go Big or Go Home."  That is to me the essence of passion.

Passion can come from many aspects of our life.  It can be from seeing your son play his first varsity football game, your daughter be the drum major for her school marching band, or from the start of the show season and all the fairs and county shows.  Any of these are excellent reasons to be full of passion.

I find that as I am always passionate for different aspects of my life, I don't always show that enthusiasm.  There are times when I am very lack luster and my passion does not shine through in life.  That is okay because we all get preoccupied with other life events.  What is not okay is not going back to revisit that passion frequently.  We all need to make sure that if we have a passion for something in life, we need to always keep it at the top of our radar.

Just over a month ago Dad and I went to visit some dear family friends.  Their oldest son had been killed in a car wreck.  Just like any good neighbor we took food.  When families experience a tragedy it does help to have others who have gone through the same experience around.  To give comfort and understanding.  It all helps to begin the healing process.

It was a good visit that filled out souls and did well to all of us.  We talked about a number events, topics and a lot about life.  We have had the pleasure of being neighbors when I was growing up.  Neighbors in my part of the country means our pastures backed up to each other.  They were both teachers and I had the pleasure of being a student of them both.

While talking to the husband we got on the topic of work and what I did now.  We talked about him substitute teaching still as well as how the techniques have changed.  He talked about how he lets the kids use their cell phones to look up information and help teach others about their findings.  They are able to teach each other.  This is a technique that he used a lot in school and was very effective.

This husband and wife team were both excellent teachers.  While chatting with the husband he talked about how he never thought of going to teach as a job.  He loved what he did and still does.  He says you can see those in the teacher lounge who do not want to be there at all.  They complain all the time and never have a positive outlook. He talked about how getting up each day and going to teach felt like a privilege.

He has a passion for teaching.  He loved to go to school, talk to the kids, teach them something new and see them grow.  He loved to watch shy meek kids grow into strong leaders and adults.  There were a lot of kids that went through his class room over the years.  They ranged across all spectrum's of the life and he loved teaching each one of them every day. His passion shined through in the success of his students.  It also shined through in how he and his wife raised their own children.

When we have a passion in life it should never seem like a chore or a dreaded task.  That job or task is something we should look forward too each and every day.  It's difficult to have a passion about our jobs.  There are too many of us that work in positions that probably is not our passion.  However, there are probably a lot of aspects in your job that matches your passions in life.

I find that I do have a passion for many things in my life.  There are some though that make me get excited more than others.  Those are the ones that I choose to work on and they are the ones you should choose to work on as well.  If we follow our passions in life though I do believe we will all be successful.

If you are not sure what your passion is in life that is okay.  I recommend taking some time to find it and learn about it. You have to get deeper a lot though than just having a passion for cooking.  Most find they love to bake sweets, grill, smoke or even meal preparation.  You can really drive down to an aspect of your passion that will make a difference in your life and maybe even the lives around you.

So once you determine your passion in life please GO BIG OR GO HOME!  There is no reason to rest on your laurels. Get up, get out and make a difference.

"Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." ~Harriet Tubman

Post Script:  The teacher in this blog was my Agricultural Science teacher when I was growing up.  He was also my sisters Ag Teacher.  He helped encourage my otherwise very present passion for cattle and agriculture.  He was always supportive and gave the best advice.  It's always nice to have people in your life that encourages your efforts and does not put them down.

You are a special kind of stupid aren't you?

I started this post the other day and it was titled something else and decided to change it since people never cease to amaze me. I know a lot of people. They either worked with me, were one of my employees when I managed people, or friends and family.  I like to follow a wide variety of people on my twitter account.  I think it's important to get a well rounded idea of what people think and believe.      There are some horrific tragedies that have occurred in our country.   They are tragedies that we have seen in the past and will continue to see in the future.  We as Americans come together and support each other, we provide support, food, money, and a prayer.  All are important to the process of rebuilding their lives that have been destroyed.      Theordore Rosevelt was fond of the West African Proverb "Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far." Pretty good saying in my book. ...

Clean your Windshield

It’s that time of year where people will have the “new year, new me” phrase going strong. For many that will last about 2-3 weeks.  For others they will last well into mid-year. I am of the philosophy that you should make changes immediately in life. If you need to start eating healthier then go to the cupboard and fridge and throw out all unhealthy food. If you are going to stop drinking, throw out all your booze. (Rest a sure this will not happen in my house.) If you are going to start working harder on your livestock, turn off your phones and get to the barn. If you are going to sit back and re-evaluate your life while planning for new adventures, sit down and make a list. Every one of these goals requires you to clean your windshield to see what is ahead of you.  As we go down the highway of life we have a big broad windshield in front of us. We can see great distances and have great hopes of what I'd to come in our lives. In-order to see down that road, you must clea...

It is Just a Show

In the beginning I was not a watcher or a fan. There was a lot of talk. Chatter online. Then I decided to tune and check out all the hype. There is cattle, ranching, horses, politics, drama, and suspense. This show was a creation from the mind of a very creative horse jockey. The story is well written, the acting is superb, and the raw attitude is what brings people back each week. This show hits an audience that is hungry for real talk, real action, and real results. The bad part is it is all fiction.  The show is full of wrong information. Actions that make no sense. Calves do not jump up and start running immediately after being born. Most cattle ranches don’t take their hands and shoot them off a cliff if their employment has ended. They don’t brand their workers for show of loyalty. The good news is it is all fiction.  The characters in the show are people you either love or hate. They are characters that bring a lot of talent to the show. These people come from ma...
